Pocket Horrors
Unofficial Fan Page

Welcome to my unofficial Pocket Horrors fan page. I grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa, and still remember getting to play the arcade version at Parallel Planet before it suddenly disappeared. Me and my friends were mad about it. A few of us even managed to get our hands on the cartridge version later, which caused absolute chaos when our parents found out. By late 1990, most of us had been made to smash them up, hand them over, or pretend we had lost them. I remember laughing about it at the time, like it was all some big secret club. The rumor was they only ever showed up around Iowa, though nobody seemed to know why. Then, of course, there were the other stories, kids getting weird when the game was taken away, nightmares, monsters in the room, that sort of thing. I’m not saying I believe all of it. I just remember the game, and I thought this would be a good place for people to reminisce, share stories, and post about any collectible figures or arcade prizes they have.

Pocket Horrors Game

I still have my copy of the Pocket Horrors cartridge, although the electronics are long gone, so there’s no way of actually playing it from the cart itself. For years I assumed that was probably for the best. However, a playable port was recently recovered by deadpixels77 and can be accessed by clicking the button below. I should say this clearly, you play it entirely at your own risk. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I have strange memories connected to this game, and I’m not the only one. I take no responsibility for anything you experience after pressing play.

Other Collectibles

There were Pocket Horrors collectibles too, mainly battle cards and small toy figures. From what I remember, you could only get them at the arcade, although I’ve heard some video stores had them as well. A friend of mine swore he kept getting the ghost figure no matter how many he bought, and after a while he became convinced it had started appearing in his room at night. Mad, obviously, but that’s the sort of thing people still say about this game. The back of the manual says some copies were supposed to come with a collector’s glow in the dark Ghost, but mine never had one. Maybe it was only packed with certain cartridges. A friend has one, so for now the best I can do is show a photo.

Forum

This section is for anyone who remembers Pocket Horrors, the arcade, the cartridges, the cards, the figures, or anything connected to it. Please keep it respectful. A lot of these memories are strange, and some people still find the subject uncomfortable, so don’t mock anyone for sharing what they remember.
